Football rivals Hereford FC and Worcester City in charity clash

A youth football team in yellow and blue kits stands on a football pitch holding a presentation cheque for St Richard’s Hospice. The cheque shows a donation from Warndon Villages Tigers Under 12s. A St Richard’s Hospice banner and two footballs are displayed in front of the team, with goalposts and trees in the background under a bright blue sky.

Local rivals Hereford FC and Worcester City will play each other for the first time in 10 years in a pre-season charity game on Tuesday, 21 July.

The game at the M&M Edgar Street Stadium in Hereford will see hospitality proceeds and a percentage of match ticket sales split between the cities’ hospices, St Richard’s in Worcester and St Michael’s in Hereford.

Local football team Wardon Villages Tigers under 12s (pictured) will represent Worcester City and St Richard’s in a guard of honour that will cheer the teams onto the pitch.

The Tigers recently took to the Malvern Hills for a 10-mile walk in support of St Richard’s and raised over £1,600 towards free hospice care in the county.

Ria Simons, Corporate Fundraising Lead at St Richard’s, said: “We know there are many Worcester City supporters with loved ones and friends who will have benefitted from the free, compassionate care provided by St Richard’s. We hope this game is an opportunity for them to support their favourite team and their local hospice.”

It’s hoped that the match will become an annual fixture in support of the two hospices.

Match tickets are available from Hereford FC’s website https://herefordfc.ticketco.events.

VIP hospitality tickets in the Hereford Suite are available either individually or as a table of ten and include a two-course meal, seats in the Merton Stand and guest speaker, Gary Stevens, who has played for both Hereford FC and Worcester City. Hospitality tickets can be booked on St Richard’s website at Hereford FC vs Worcester City FC – St Richard’s Hospice.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity offering free, expert care for adults with an illness that cannot be cured, and support for their loved ones and carers.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,000 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

It will cost in the region of £12m to run the hospice this year, which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.

St Richard’s relies on voluntary support, including from donations, gifts in Wills, retail and events for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
