We offer spoke placements to students studying for a degree in a healthcare profession.
Placements offer students the opportunity to gain valuable experience of palliative and end-of-life care with a shadow shift at St Richard’s Hospice.
What is a spoke placement?
A spoke placement is a one-day placement at an organisation different to your usual or main placement.

Which hospice departments offer spoke placements?
Nursing students can choose to spend a day on our In-patient Unit (IPU) or with our Hospice at Home Team in the community. Spoke placements are also available with our Therapies Team.
IPU
Shifts on our IPU are 8am to 8.15pm (day shift), or 8pm to 8.15am (night shift). If you choose a spoke placement on IPU, you must arrive promptly for handover at 8am or 8pm.
Hospice at Home
Shifts with our Hospice at Home Team vary, so the placement will be arranged on an individual basis. Where possible, we place students in the area of the county they are already placed.
For example, if a student has their primary placement with the Malvern Neighbourhood Team we do our best to arrange their spoke placement with our Malvern team.
Therapies Team
We can also offer spoke placements for physiotherapy or occupational therapy students with our Therapies Team. This could be any day Monday to Friday and hours can be arranged on a case by case basis.
