The café at our St Swithin’s shop is a warm and welcoming social and dining space, where people come to meet, relax, and enjoy a drink or a meal. We’re looking for friendly, customer-focused volunteers to join our team and help us create a great experience for every customer. If you enjoy meeting people, making them feel welcome, and providing thoughtful service that will help raise vital funds for St Richard’s Hospice, this role could be a great fit for you.
What’s involved?
- Welcoming customers
- Taking orders for hot and cold drinks, snacks, and meals at the servery and till point, and handling transactions on the till (training is provided)
- Serving food and drinks with a smile, checking that customers have everything they need
- Preparing and serving barista style coffees, teas, and other drinks
- Clearing and cleaning tables so the café is always tidy and inviting
- Lending a hand with pot washing and general cleaning tasks as part of the team.
- Answering questions about the menu and our hospice shop
This role could be a great fit for you, if you are:
- Friendly and customer-focused
- Calm under pressure (the café and servery area can get busy)
- Reasonably fit and active
- Flexible and reliable
- Keen to learn new skills
- Interested, or experienced, in catering or food and beverage services (previous experience isn’t required but would be beneficial for this role)
- Comfortable using a till to help with café sales (training is provided).
Shadow shifts: enquiring individuals will be asked to attend a volunteer shadow shift. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other, find out more about your skills and interests, answer any questions you may have, and discuss in more detail the expectations of volunteering with us at St Richard’s. Shadow shifts aim to help our managers and prospective volunteers determine suitability for a role.
