Volunteer Complementary Therapist

Join our friendly Living Well team as a Volunteer Complementary Therapist, based at St Richard’s Hospice on Wildwood Drive. By sharing your time, skills and compassion in this role, you’ll make a difference to the therapies and services we can provide, helping us create a calm, nurturing environment in which patients always feel cared for and supported.

What’s involved?

As a volunteer, you’ll be offering agreed complementary therapies that bring comfort and relaxation to patients, while always following hospice guidelines and policies. You’ll use your existing skills and knowledge, along with information shared with you by the team, to recognise where adjustments are needed. This will enable you to offer therapies that are safe and suited to each person’s needs, diagnosis, treatment, and how they’re feeling on the day.

It’ll also be important for you to keep accurate electronic treatment notes, and you’ll be asked to join us in complementary therapy meetings to enhance communication across our team and ensure you feel supported in the role.

This role could be a great fit for you, if you are:

  • Experienced in offering complementary therapies, with a post qualification (minimum 18 months) in two or more of the following: aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage, relaxation therapy, massage therapy, M Technique, Reiki (experience in a palliative care setting would be especially beneficial for this role)
  • A current member of a UK professional therapy association
  • Fully insured
  • Caring and compassionate, able to bring your skills, knowledge and warmth to this role, and willing to learn from others
  • Able to maintain agreed professional boundaries and ensure patient safety and confidentiality
  • Able to communicate clearly and listen attentively.

Please note: all new volunteers are asked to attend an interview with our Complementary Therapists, undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check, provide us with details of two referees, and read and sign a Confidentiality Statement.

When is help needed?
