Hospice Care Week 2024

Do you know the difference you make when you shop with St Richard’s?

This #HospiceCareWeek (7-13 October) we’re celebrating all things St Richard’s retail and how it helps fund our care.

Whether you buy online, in our shops, donate, or volunteer, you help raise the vital funds we need to be there for patients across Worcestershire and the people important to them.

For example, the sale of two comfy armchairs could pay for a Community Staff Nurse like Chloe here to care for patients in their homes for a day.

And every time 68 books are sold in our shops this could fund an Occupational Therapist like Sally for a day supporting patients to remain as independent as possible.

But we believe our vital hospice services shouldn’t depend on the generosity of people like you buying goods from our shops.

Something needs to change.

#HospiceCareWeek shines a light on these injustices for hospices across the UK. And the national charity Hospice UK is meeting policy makers to fight for fairer funding for hospice care.

Take 30 seconds to write to your MP and add your voice to the thousands already calling for fairer hospice funding.

Donate your goods

Turn your clothes into care!

The sale of an outfit like the one pictured here could fund a Healthcare Assistant like Hayley caring for patients on our In-patient Unit for one day.

This is the difference your donated goods can make to the lives of people across Worcestershire.  If you would like to donate your quality, preloved items for sale in our shops and online pop into your nearest shop, or our warehouse, during opening hours.

Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation, as this adds 25 per cent extra value to us at no extra cost to you!

Thank you, retail volunteers!

Dedicated shop volunteer, Sylvia, knows from personal experience just how important it is to raise funds for St Richard’s to continue caring.

Sylvia’s husband, Les, was cared for in the hospice In-patient Unit in 2017.

“It’s important to me to know that by volunteering in the shop I’m helping to raise money for St Richard’s and the good work they do. They were fantastic to Les and us all as a family.”

Sylvia, who works several shifts a week in our Droitwich shop, remembers that hospice care gave Les dignity.

In particular, she recalls how Les was able to relax in his first bath for two years, thanks to our In-patient Team. Although he had been able to shower at home, it was a bath soak he was missing.

“As well as helping to raise funds, I love working in the shop,” adds Sylvia. “The shop manager, Gary, is fantastic, there’s great camaraderie and I like meeting customers and the regulars. We get lots of compliments about the quality of the shop items.”

If you’d like to volunteer with our retail team, see the range of roles available in our shops, warehouse, and eCommerce.
