Equity, diversity and inclusion at St Richard’s

St Richard’s is committed to being a place where everyone feels welcome.

Whether you are cared for by us, employed by us, volunteer for us, or support us in any way, we want to be accessible and inclusive to you.

We believe people should have equitable access to our services and opportunities, and to be treated with kindness and respect.

We work with patients and the people important to them, including biological or chosen families and carers, to truly understand their individual needs and strive to meet them.

However, we know there is more work to do.

We must continue to engage with our diverse communities to reach people who feel the hospice cannot meet their needs, or who may face barriers to accessing our care.

What are we doing about this?

Our teams are committed to embedding equity, diversity and inclusion into every aspect of life at St Richard’s in many, varied ways.

These are our current priority areas.

1) Improving the ways that we collect and record personal data such as gender, ethnicity, and spoken languages.

This will help us tailor care to people’s individual needs and to identify communities who may face barriers to accessing our care

2) Ensuring we ask people about their individual communication needs, recording this information clearly and meeting those needs

3) We have been implementing Equality Impact Assessments for any new policies, changes to services and new services

4) Continuing to work to understand the barriers to hospice care and working with the people affected to find solutions

5) Understanding the needs of people living in poverty, and ensuring there are no barriers to care for people experiencing this

We want to hear from you

We want to hear your feedback and ideas about how we can be more inclusive and accessible to you and your community.
