How writing your Will could help the hospice

A month-long Will writing campaign led by St Richard’s Hospice is set to return this September.

During the hospice’s Write a Will Month campaign, a trio of Worcestershire solicitors’ firms will offer people the opportunity to write a simple Will for £95, or a double Will for £150 – with 100 per cent of the money donated to St Richard’s.

The firms taking part are Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Scaiff LLP Solicitors, in Worcester and Kitcat and Co Solicitors, based in Malvern.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of writing a Will – which is a document setting out how people want their money, property and possessions to be distributed after their death.

Ria Simons, Fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “Writing a Will should not be a daunting experience, but we understand it is often a process many people don’t like to think about.

“During our Write a Will Month campaign we hope to encourage people to take the first step and make an appointment with one of our participating solicitors.

“Once you have a Will in place, you also have peace of mind to know if you died, everything would be organised for your loved ones.

“All the participating solicitors are giving up their time free of charge to help the hospice – we are very grateful for their generous support.”

It is important to write a Will because in situations when a person dies without one, rules dictate how the individual’s estate is allocated which may not be as they would wish. It is also important to update a Will if personal circumstances change – for example if someone marries, divorces or adopts a child.

David Kitcat, solicitor at Kitcat and Co Solicitors, said: “Over the years I have dealt with many St Richard’s patients and their families. Without fail they have praised the warm and professional care that they have received from the charity.

“This is why I am committed to helping St Richard’s raise funds because I see how valuable their work is for the local community.”

Kimberley Gaffey, Chartered Legal Executive at Scaiff LLP Solicitors, said: “Having had personal dealings with St Richard’s Hospice this is an opportunity to offer support for the amazing work they do.

“Write a Will Month is an excellent way of raising funds whilst doing something we are passionate about and helping others secure their future along the way.”

Rachael Wheeler, trainee solicitor at Harrison Clark Rickerbys, said: “We are pleased to be supporting St Richards Hospice in the Write a Will month this September and look forward to people getting in touch with us.”

St Richard’s Hospice is also encouraging people to consider leaving a gift in their Will, after they have provided for family and friends, although there is no obligation to do so.
